Make-A-Wish Foundation®
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Wishes provide a special type of medicine, diverting thoughts from the difficult routine of medical treatments and hospital visits to thoughts of possibilities, dreams and fun.
As the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 74 chapters in the United States and 28 international affiliates, the Foundation has granted more than 127,000 wishes. Through the tireless efforts of over 25,000 volunteers, a child's most heartfelt wish is granted every hour of every day.
Since the Wisconsin chapter was founded in 1984, approximately 2,500 families statewide can attest to the power of a wish. Last year, the chapter granted a record-breaking number of wishes with 215 children receiving their one special wish. Since inception in 1985, the Illinois chapter has granted the wishes of over 6,000 children battling life-threatening medical conditions. This year, the goal is to grant the wishes of over 600 children in the 70 northern counties of Illinois. This is made possible with the support of approximately 800 volunteers and thousands of donors per year.
